Listen to God Sightings [audio]
During Eastertide we move away from the holy introspection of Lent and pivot toward the Spirit-fire of Pentecost. Last Sunday I suggested that we take a journey during the upcoming seven weeks—a quest so to speak—to make ourselves fully conscious of Jesus' work in the world. [audio - opens new window]
Rather than adding one more thing to do in our lives, I proposed that we accept this invitation by engaging in simple attentiveness rooted in a genuine fondness for God, like young lovers, who no matter what else they are doing, they cannot keep their mind off of their beloved.
"Paying attention is not a way by which we make something happen but a way to see what is already given to us."* In a culture of Continuous Partial Attention it is a challenge to be attentive to the ongoing story of God.
Until Pentecost let's have some fun learning to be alert to the times, places and ways Jesus shows up in our world, our now-lives. Let's try to catch him doing good, give him credit for it and point his work out to each other, thus encouraging us all.
The Good Friday Jesus who bled and died for you is your real friend—really. He is alive and pursuing his agenda in the world. The disciples experienced Jesus' presence at least ten times between Easter and Pentecost. Aslan is loose. Where might you see him?
